If you have Android Smartphone or Tablet and it supports a USB on-the-go (OTG), you can easily connect USB barcode scanner with your Smartphone or tablet for stock verification of library books.
USB on-the-go (OTG)
To use a USB scanner with your Smartphone or Tablet device, you will need a USB OTG adapter or cable. It has a female USB connector on one end and a male micro USB connector on the other.
First plug the USB barcode scanner to the female USB connector of an OTG adapter or a cable. Then plug the micro-USB end of the OTG adapter or cable into the micro-USB port of your mobile device and wait for the system to recognize the scanner.
micro-USB port of mobile device
In this process we can stored captured data directly into an excel sheet(an app available in google play store , “Microsoft Excel”) by random scanning of every bar code .. .
Another technique for "Stock Verification"by using Smartphone or Tablet device (For them who have not Barcode scanner)
application software (Barcode to Sheet)
First I have download and installed an application software (Barcode to Sheet) in my smartphone from Google Playstore. Then we randomly scanned the barcodes and export it to excel sheet.. .
Complete physical verification of books should be done every year in case of libraries having not more than twenty thousand volumes. For libraries having more than twenty thousand volumes and up to fifty thousand volumes, such verification should be done at least once in three years. Sample physical verification at intervals of not more than three years should be done in case of libraries having more than fifty thousand volumes. In case such verification reveals unusual or unreasonable shortages, complete verification shall be done.
Loss of five volumes per one thousand volumes of books issued/consulted in a year may be taken as reasonable provided such losses are not attributable to dishonesty or negligence. However, loss of a book of a value exceeding Rs. 1,000/- (Rupees One thousand only) and rare books irrespective of value shall invariably be investigated and appropriate action taken.
